Full Report

The game was being played in windy wet conditions

Some local matches were called off with waterlogged pitches so the grounds men deserved a medal with the pitch looking in excellent condition considering the football and rugby being played on the Meadow Lane turf.

The first half which was quiet up to the 39th minute, both teams had chances with Pearce having one cleared off the line for Notts.

Then on 39 minutes It was a dubious penalty given to Shrewsbury that livened things up .

When Notts captain Tann went to play the ball away the Shrewsbury striker Hibbert went down and to the amazement of the home fans and the Notts boss the ref gave a penalty.

Hibbert stepped up and sent Pilkington the wrong way.

The Notts boss was not yet finished with telling the ref his views on the penalty.

The ref then told the Notts boss the leave the dug out sending him to the stands.

Half-Time: Notts County 0-1 Shrewsbury

Notts got back in this game on 69 minutes when a corner was played in Tann managed to get his head to the ball but this was saved and young Pearce was there to blast home his first league goal.

Notts gained all 3 points when with 15 minutes to go Dudfield was fouled on the edge of the Shrewsbury box.

Notts lined up to take this free-kick and after a chat between a few players it was Mackenzie that was going to run up to take this free kick.

Up stepped Mackenzie sending the ball over the wall and under the bar earning Notts 3 valuable points.
