Notts manager Gudjon Thordarson had to make changes to the squad with Baudet back from suspension for this clash and Sheridan starting up front with Dadi the manager went for a 4-4-2 formation. The first half was very tight between the two clubs in mid table. Pilkington saved well form a long range effort but it was Notts who were to score first in this local derby. On 43 minutes Chris Palmer let fly with one of his long range efforts which beat Pressman to the delight of the home fans and to give the magpies a lead at half time.

Mansfield started the second half the better team and on 61 minutes Wilson scored in front of the 3,700 traveling fans. Notts were now on the back foot and 3 minutes later things were to get worse for Notts as more poor defending gave Barker a chance and the striker got his 20th goal of the season. Gudjon changed things a little and moved Pipe up front and on 76 minutes Notts get level when Chillingworth scored from close range after a scramble in the area to the delight of the home fans as some poured onto the pitch. Both teams had chances but the best fell to Mansfield with the 3 minutes of injury time nearly up Giles Coke went clear and rounded the Notts keeper but when it seamed easier to score somehow to the amazement of the 9,779 he hit the post and the ball was cleared
