Notts new manager Steve Thompson included eight new faces into the starting line up,Only Pipe,Pilkington and Edwards played from last seasons squad. Lincoln started the game the brighter of the two teams and it was the Notts keeper who was the busiest of the two saving early from Moses. After 10 minutes Lincoln scored when MOSES scored from a corner. The game was all Lincoln's at this stage as Notts were battling to stay in the game. After 16 minutes Lee was the first Notts player to be booked this season and maybe he was lucky it was only yellow. Notts first good chance came after 24 minutes when White headed close from a Ross corner. As the half came to a end Notts were lucky to keep it to 1-0.

The second half Lincoln in the first few minutes played the same but as the half went on Notts started to take control. Pipe and Parkinson both went close early in the half but on 55 minutes Ross played in a free kick only for HUGHES to put through his own net. At this point the 1,836 fans that had made the short journey from Nottingham were starting to think that Notts could win the game which had not happened on a opening day for 6 years. Both teams had chances to win the game but a point was a fair result.
