Notts brought back Jason Lee for this match after his injury.
Also Jay Smith was on the bench after his long injury.
In the first half Notts was the better side without creating that clear goal scoring opportunity.
Felix played well and causing danger plus Lee played well in the first half.
Half time: Notts County 0-0 Chester City
The second half was played at a higher tempo than the first.
The turning point in the match came when Pilkington produced one of his best saves ever.
Chester got a free kick 20 yards out towards the corner of the area, the Chester player placed the ball round the wall and it was heading in until Pilkington, somehow saved the shot giving the away side a corner.
Even the Chester players congratulated the Notts keeper.
One minute later the Notts captain Tann put the magpies in front.
Notts got a corner and when Chester failed to clear the ball Lee headed towards goal and Tann put the ball over the line to put the magpies in front.
Dudfield could have had a hat-trick in the second half.
His first chance was put against the cross bar and then cleared.
The best of the chances was his second when he raced through on goal and with just the keeper to beat he shot wide.
The third chance was a chance in the area and when he thought he had finally scored his chance was cleared off the line.
Butcher was to have a chance in the second half but he never added to his nine goals so far this season.
A big cheer was heard by all when the ref blew the final whistle to give the magpies three points after a fine gritty display.
Full time: Notts County 1-0 Chester City
